Big congratulations to Calle Eklund who won the tournament this time, and brought home the Cup permanently, as it was his third time!

It’s soon time for the major bi-annual golf event that has been played since 1956, the prestigious Scandinavian Cup; this time it’s the 85th time around. As you might remember, last year it was the 2-day 50th anniversary tournament but now we are back to normal competitions again. “We” will then obviously play for the 100th time in October 2014!

We look forward to seeing both old and new players from all the Nordic countries to join the 2007 Spring Tournament. Also this time we will play at Windsor Park Golf & Country Club, a place, which has become quite popular recently, and the so called Finnkampen or Routsikampi between SCCJ and FCCJ will took place there last week. FCCJ was the winner!

Windsor Park is located north of Tokyo along Highway no 6, Joban Expressway and it will take slightly less than 2 hours to go there, so, you should leave central Tokyo at latest 6:45, as we will start at 9:00. If you don’t drive you can also go by train, see the homepage of WPGCC.

We will play 18 holes with out break. Snacks will be served when you pass the clubhouse after 9 holes. After playing, please relax in the ofuro for a while when we will find out who the winner is. As usual you will get food, buffet and BBQ style, and drinks during the price ceremony. We think you will be able to return to Tokyo around 16:00.

As usually, the price for the event is rather favourable.
Payment to the Club 9,700 yen (Members 8,500 yen), please pay this before leaving the club.
Competition fee is 4000 yen and will be collected upon your arrival to the club or during the price ceremony.

We have reserved space for 48 players, first come, first served. The only additional cost is to buy drinks at the rest houses on the course or having a breakfast when you arrive.
As Windsor also have a hotel you can come the night before and stay overnight. You will be able to play 9 holes free of charge on Thursday afternoon, starting after 14:00.

As usual we will play the Stableford system (“Poängboggie”) and in order to give everybody a fair chance, please advise your present handicap, or your three latest scores and your Stableford points or show your official hcp-card.
Maximum handicap in the competition is 30 for men and 36 for ladies. Junior players have a separate competition. In case of space available, you are allowed to bring a Nordic guest, but they can’t win the major prices. Both the Men and the Ladies can play for the main Scandinavian Cup but ladies also have a second chance win a separate Ladies Cup. We now play for the 4th Scandinavian Cup donated by Jan Helgesen 1996. Defending Champion is Lotta Porat, but unfortunately she can’t defend the cup this time.

It’s a nice tradition that each player brings some prices, so please don’t forget this. If your company would like to make a substantial sponsoring we will of course put your logo on the website! Please send the logo by E-mail to Kjell. We hope that our old sponsors will continue to support the tournament, and we also hope for some interesting prices from new sponsors as well.

Please send in your applications to play in Scandinavian cup, preferable before May 15, by e-mail, fax or directly on the web site. We will send out the starting list but you will also find it on the home page, so please check the Scandinavian Cup site, some new information will be posted from time to time.

There have been some changes in the rules so please read them here. The three major changes are:
- you can’t win the cup the first time you play
- no touch, play the ball without any improvement
- the rule of handicap reduction of first, second and third place next time you play is taken away.

A note: Johannes Albinsson who finished with the overall best score, is a junior and is thus excluded from the main competition.

The top three players were ladies this tournament! I think that is a first in the tournament’s history.

Due to rule technicalities relating to the fact that players have to play with reduced handicaps in the next tournament following a top 3 placement caused some confusion. The Scandinavian Tournament Committee will investigate the whether some of parts of the rules should be revised to increase simplicity and transparancy. Stay tuned to this web page for more updates.

The correct price for the upcoming Scandinavian cup October 20 at Windsor Park is the following:

Payment to the club;
Non-members 9,700yen
Members at WPGCC 8,500yen

In addition to this, competition fee 3,000, to cover various prices. Collected at the price ceremony or when you arrive.

First tee off at 09:00.
We will play 18 hole with just a quick sandwich and a drink after 9 holes.
At the price ceremony we will have a buffet style party with drinks.

I installed a helper software called “Spam Karma 2″ which is something I use on my personal blog as well (http://lostinjapan.groth.hm) and it kills virtually all attempts to spam comment-enabled parts of the site. Since I had neglected this site a few months, as you may have seen, there were various “interesting” spam comments filling the pages here, ranging from the innocent (football betting) to the bad (Xanax and Viagra) to the downright nasty.

Hopefully the pages will be free from such smut now!

The 50 year anniversary cup was a two day tournament, but this is of course
only a one day tournament. The next two day tournament will be in 2014, when
they play for 100th time!

It has come to my attention that the the score keeper has made a blunder and incorrectly calculated your combined net score from the two-day tournament! The handicap was deducted from the combined gross score, but as we played 36 holes, the handicap should have been deducted twice to get a correct net score, of course!

Luckily this mistake had very little impact on the results. Some places around 13th-16th and 24th-26th place were shifted around.
